God has blessed me to work at Yes Fm here in Toledo, and yesterday I worked an event in Westminster, OH. There was free music, fellowship, and free food; but that’s not what moved me. Around 830 pm yesterday evening it started to pour down rain and the second band wasn’t able to play. I had started packing my Yes Fm gear when I started to notice something happening all around me. There was a brilliance in the sky because of the lightning that was occurring. Now most of you would think I’m nuts because I was putting away a metal tent when I stopped to look at the beauty of it all. I heard some people playing in the rain, but I heard a lot of people taking cover and some were even scared by the sound and feeling of everything that was going on.
I got in my car to start the trip home and I could barely see the road. By the grace of God I got to a gas station and waited for the rain to slow. The whole rest of the trip, there was no rain, but the lightning running across the sky was just blowing my mind. I started to think that if some of my friends were in the car with me, with or without rain, they would be terrified simply because of the power of the lighting and the sound of the thunder. This reminded me of a few passages.
1 "At this my heart pounds and leaps from its place. 2 Listen! Listen to the roar of his voice, to the rumbling that comes from his mouth. 3 He unleashes his lightning beneath the whole heaven and sends it to the ends of the earth.4 After that comes the sound of his roar; he thunders with his majestic voice. When his voice resounds, he holds nothing back. 5 God's voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. 6 He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth,' and to the rain shower, 'Be a mighty downpour.' JOB 37:1-6
2At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. 3And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne. 4Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads. 5From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. Before the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God. 6Also before the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal .REVELATION 4:2-5
I began to think, “if these small earthly storm strike fear in people, how much more awesome would it be to see God for real?” Think about it, all the people in the bible that had visions of God on his Throne are said to fall to the ground as if they were dead. However, God spares their life and lets them see the vision. This is the sovereign God we serve. This is God, mighty and true. Faithful till the end. This helps bring to full circle the meaning of what Paul says in chapter 8 of Romans:
31What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Who can be against us? Remember, Jesus died and rose that we may come to know His Father, and to have a relationship with him! It’s because of the cross we even have an option to praise God and for Him to be pleased by it!
Father, I pray that we have a hunger to know more about you, and to go deeper with everything that we do with you. God you are awesome and mighty. Thank you for your patience and your grace. Without it, I’d be dead and lost. Help us to seek you and give us more faith to walk in your ways. We love you Father. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen
Be blessed
Bryan
