The Wave Fearing Fishermen Wakes The Sleeping Carpenter!

Happy 4th of July! Thank God for freedom! This week we continue our dive through the book of Mark and I'm excited to ask some hard questions. Lets dive right into Mark 4...

Previously in our passage of focus, Jesus is talking to a massive crowd from a boat as they stand on the shore. (Water is a natural amplifier when it's calm) He was teaching in parables, and it was getting dark out.

Jesus tells his disciples to head off to the other side of the sea. This should be easy, after all, there are good deal of fishermen on board!

"So they left the crowd and took Him along since He was already in the boat. And other boats were with Him. A fierce windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking over the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. But He was in the stern, sleeping on the cushion. So they woke Him up and said to Him, “Teacher! Don’t You care that we’re going to die? ” Mark 4:36-38

Wait! That had to be a wicked storm! You have pro fishermen, like Deadliest Catch style fishermen on this boat! These guys should have also known that the particular body of water they were heading across would allow storms to practically come from nowhere! This is because of the mountain ranges that were surrounding it. Again, fishermen know their local waters!  With all this being said, they were TERRIFIED for their lives! One disciple is so scared he decides, "I'm going to find Jesus, he'll know what to do!"

Can you imagine, the boat is rocking, waves are coming on to the boat, and you find Jesus sound asleep! I thought I was a heavy sleeper! This disciple wakes him up and feels as though Jesus doesn't even care!

Have you ever had this happen? You feel that Jesus is calling you to do something and you feel it's something simple! You set out to accomplish that task, there are so many obstacles, and its like Jesus is sleeping on the job?

It leaves you to think, "God why did you even ask me to do this? This should be a cake walk, and you're nowhere to be found! Do you not even care for me that you're not even helping?"

In my life I've found that there is a situation I'm in right now! Looking at my skill set and the giftings God has given me, this should be an easy trust! As the saying goes, "If God brings you to it, He'll bring you through it!" Yet, I find myself asking, "God, you see this right?"

"Then He said to them, “Why are you fearful? Do you still have no faith? ” Mark 4:40

Jesus is looking for people to simply TRUST Him and REST in that trust!

My hope this week is that you would be a follower that is found resting in your trust in Him!

What is your trust in today?
Do you have peace in the process of where God is leading you?
