As we look into Mark, I'm excited to look at a story in scripture it can be easy to look past. One of my favorite stories in the Gospels is the feeding if the five thousand. Mark 8:1-10 has another example of a similar story that has some pretty awesome implications!
There are a few similarities to the feeding of the 5,000.
1. A massive crowd follows him (Mark 6:31, 8:1)
2. The crowd was very hungry and had not enough food (Mark 6:36, 8:3)
3. Jesus feeds them (Mark 6:39-44, 8:6-10)
There, is something different though about the 4,000 feeding that I would like to hone in on! Jesus seems to do the same miracle, a similar outcome, and the miracle is done.
In the feeding of the 5,000 it says:
“You give them something to eat,” He (Jesus) responded. They said to Him, “Should we go and buy 200 denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat? ” Mark 6:37
He seems very blunt. The disciples don't know how something like this works. So Jesus builds faith!
In the feeding of the 4,000 it says:
“I have compassion on the crowd, because they’ve already stayed with Me three days and have nothing to eat. If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, and some of them have come a long distance.” Mark 8:2-3
This time Jesus does something different. In chapter 6 he tests their faith, then builds faith! In chapter 8 he continues building faith, while giving a greater glimpse of His heart. Do you see it?
Have you ever had a moment in your walk with Jesus where you feel like He is opening a similar door to before? Don't miss the deeper glimpse into His heart. Jesus enjoys us knowing the very deep things of His being!
Is Jesus doing something through you in a similar way as He has previously?
What is the deeper message this time?
I love you Beloved!
